Casualties: Unknown Release Date, Launch Time and Price
Casualties: Unknown launches on 9 November 2026 at 15:00 CET for $22.99 / €22.99 on Steam. It is a Windows-only release with English and Simplified Chinese support, and it arrives with the full eleven-layer campaign rather than an early-access slice.
The store page has been up since the demo launched in April 2026, but pre-orders were not open at the time of writing. That means there is no pre-load and no pre-order bonus to miss. You can wishlist the game now so Steam notifies you when the button changes from "Coming soon" to "Buy".

Price and editions
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Base game | $22.99 / €22.99 |
| Demo | Free |
| Deluxe edition | None announced |
| Pre-order bonus | None |
There is no season pass, no cosmetic pack and no deluxe upgrade listed. The game is a single purchase with the full campaign. If a bundle appears after launch, it will most likely pair the game with the developer's earlier titles rather than add content.
Regional pricing will vary. The euro price matching the dollar price is common for small independent releases, and it means European buyers pay a little more in real terms once VAT is included.
What launches on day one
The release build includes:
- 11 layers, from Gravel Lands to Crimson Ascent, with the surface and the final lab as story locations.
- 3 playable characters: Experiment, Milky and Dune. The demo only lets you play Experiment.
- 300 items, including tools, weapons, armour, containers, medicine, food and crafting materials.
- The full limb and cardiovascular simulation: bleeding, infection, fractures, dislocations, blood pressure, fibrillation, pain and consciousness.
- Adjustable loot and danger values on the main menu, plus the six presets and 41 custom settings.
- Single-player only. Steam lists Single-player and Family Sharing, and nothing else.
The six layers that were not in the demo are Frozen Chasm, Fungal Pools, Crystalline Hollow, Geothermal Vents, Where We Must Reach and Crimson Ascent. The progression guide explains how they connect.
Is it early access?
No. The store page lists a release date, not an early-access date, and the demo has been in players' hands since April 2026. The developers have not announced an early-access period.
That does not guarantee a bug-free launch. A small team shipping an eleven-layer simulation will have balance patches in the first weeks. The difference is that the campaign is complete rather than episodic.
Download size and platforms
The Steam page lists 500 MB of storage and Windows 10 64-bit as the minimum. There is no macOS or Linux build. The game supports 16:9, 16:10 and ultrawide resolutions.
The demo is a separate app and a smaller download. If you have already installed the demo, the release will still download as a new game; the two do not share files.
The full system requirements page covers the CPU, GPU and storage details, including what the store page does not list.
How long is the campaign?
The developers have not published an official completion time. Based on the demo's pacing — five layers in roughly two to four hours for a new player — the full eleven-layer campaign is likely a 10–20 hour first run, longer if you rebuild after deaths and experiment with characters.
The game is also endless after the final layer. Descent continues, difficulty scales, and the story locations are milestones rather than a hard credits stop. Players who want a finite goal can stop at the surface; players who want optimization can keep descending.
Should you buy at launch?
Buy at launch if you liked the demo's medical system and want the full layer set. The price is low for the amount of simulation, and the demo already proves the core loop.
Wait for a patch or a sale if you bounced off the demo's inventory management, or if you only play with friends. There is no official co-op, and the community multiplayer mods are not a substitute for a built-in mode. The multiplayer page explains the current state.
Do not buy for achievements. Neither the demo nor the main game lists Steam achievements at the time of writing. If that changes, it will be a post-launch addition.
What to do before 9 November
- Finish the demo's five layers or at least reach Dried Desert. The demo guide has a checklist.
- Learn the health panel. Blood volume, infection risk and consciousness are the three numbers that end runs.
- Pick a first character. Experiment is the baseline; Milky and Dune change the early game enough that the choice matters. The characters guide compares them.
- Wishlist the game. There is no pre-order, so the wishlist notification is the only launch-day alert Steam gives you.
- Check your storage. 500 MB is small, but the save folder and shader cache need room too.
The game launches at a flat price with no preorder bonus. There is nothing to miss by waiting for reviews.
